- Mid-State Health Center Wins Planning Grant: Mid-State Health Center, Plymouth, has received a one year planning grant from the Office of Rural Health Policy in the amount of $81,235. These grants are used to develop a formal network with the purpose of improving coordination of health services in rural communities and strengthening the rural health care system as a whole.
Sharon Beaty, CEO of Mid-State Health Center in Plymouth, says her organization's goal is to develop collaboration among the local hospital, home health, hospice, senior center and the community health center. "We hope to create a plan that would allow us to pursue 'real' network development for the central NH area," Sharon said.
- MVHI Selected for Demonstration Project Grant: The National Association of County & City Health Organizations (NACCHO) has chosen Mascoma Valley Health Initiative (MVHI) in Canaan as one of 60 recipients of a $15,000 Accreditation Preparation and Quality Improvement Demonstration Sites Project grant.
Lindsey Vacek, Program Coordinator, said the first task in this 8-month contract is to complete a self-assessment tool (provided by NACCHO), due May 15. After going over the scores on that assessment, the next step is for MVHI to identify one measurable priority area for improvement. A final report is due in August.
NACCHO is a national organization representing the nation's approximately 3,000 local health departments (including city, county, metro, district, and tribal agencies).
